Hi, I'm Pamela...
My children have been my best teachers.
I thought I had life figured out before becoming a mum - ha!! Little did I know the moment I became a mum I started on an epic voyage of discovery into my inner world.
I thought I would be a strict mum. Instead, I was drawn to attachment parenting. Even though I tried to meet all of my daughter's needs she still wasn't happy. I wanted her to be in touch with her emotions, but I realised I wasn't in touch with my own.
Except my bad temper - I got to know that very well.
I was horrified at being a shouty mum. This was not what I had envisioned for my family. So I went on a mission to figure it out. And I did.
I knew the theory of gentle parenting, but I couldn't figure out how to put it into practice. Then I found Hand in Hand Parenting. I discovered five simple tools to help me deal with big emotions and get the support I needed so I could partner with my children instead of fighting against them.
I learned to collaborate instead of control.
I learned to play instead of preach.
I learned to navigate my own emotions so I could teach my children to manage their own big feelings.
Now I teach other parents.
It brings me huge joy to support other parents on their journey and see the Hand in Hand tools change their lives and the lives of their children.
I see how hard you are working at parenting every single day and I know you are feeling overwhelmed right now.
I know how important a gentle and respectful parenting approach is to you and how much you value investing in the long-term relationship with your child/ren - but things are feeling chaotic right now.
You are doing your very best to keep calm, but your child seems to know exactly how to push your buttons. You often flip in an instant and find yourself shouting or punishing your child - that is not the parent you want to be.
When you are feeling resourced and calm, you have heaps of patience for your kids but there are so many times when you feel swamped and frustrated.
Getting out the door in the mornings, mealtimes and bedtimes are fraught with arguments and stand-offs, when all you really want (and imagined) is to enjoy the time you spend with your child/ren.
You had high hopes for parenting but now you feel trapped in an endless cycle of stand-offs and arguments.
